Accessibility Framework

The
Accessible British Columbia Act obligates local governments to establish an Accessibility Committee, develop an accessibility plan and enable public feedback. In the Comox Valley the local municipalities (Courtenay, Comox and Cumberland) and the Comox Valley Regional District collaborated together to develop a formal relationship with the Comox Valley Accessibility Committee.

In the fall of 2023, the local governments developed and agreed on a regional Accessibility Framework in consultation with the Accessibility Committee.  Based on the collective/regional framework each participating local government will be able to undertake further action plans to reduce or remove access barriers.

The role of the Accessibility Committee is to advise on and support the development of the Accessibility Framework and further local government Accessibility Action Plans with individual local governments as required.
